Planning for the new year

Happy New Year!

Here at Fair Ways we would like to wish all of our foster carers, children, staff and anyone interested in becoming a foster carer with us a very Happy New Year 2016!

The New Year often brings talk of resolutions, hopes and dreams for the year ahead. A great time for reflection and planning, the start of the year can be the perfect time to embark on your journey of becoming a foster carer or for existing foster carers to make new plans.

Here are some tops tips for New Year planning:

1. Reflect

Spend some time thinking about 2015. Think about the highlights of the year and what could have been better. Talk to your family members about what they remember from 2015, what memories they enjoyed and things they would improve.

2. Set some goals

Is there anything you wish you had achieved in 2015? What would you like to experience in 2016? Thinking about goals for the coming year both for yourself and your family is a great way to get motivated and planning for the coming year.

Maybe you have always thought about becoming a foster carer but never taken it further. If you are an existing foster carer, is there any further training you would like to complete? Talk to your foster child about their goals too. It may be that they would really like to try a new sport. Wherever their motivation comes from, set some goals with them. You can also have goals as a family, such as to try new foods or get more active.

Just remember, in order for you and your foster children to be able to achieve their goals, they must be realistic and achievable.

3. Get started

There is no time like the present, so get started today! If you have a goal or resolution in mind, such as becoming more active as a family, think about what you can do to get started today. If you are thinking about becoming a foster carer, contact us today for more information.

4. Keep up the momentum

It can be easy for people to be full of motivation for the first few weeks of January and it can be difficult to keep up the momentum as the year goes on. To help, think back to last year and the goals you have set for the coming year and your reasons for these. Remember, life is always full of good and bad days, but focus on achieving the goals set out.

We wish you all a very happy 2016 and hope it is full of new adventures, experiences and memories. To find out more about becoming a foster carer, contact us today.
