What is Fostering Friendly?

Fair Ways Fostering Friendly Charter offers businesses of any size a chance to make a difference for foster carers and the children they care for in their local communities while improving support for their own employees.

Fair Ways are promoting the Fostering Friendly campaign in the Portsmouth area as we seek to make Portsmouth the leading Fostering Friendly city in the UK.

Nearly 40 per cent of foster carers combine fostering with other work. Those who do, tell us a supportive employer can make all the difference, enabling them to balance employment with looking after children.

I'm confused. Why are Fair Ways promoting this campaign?

As a local Fostering charity, Fair Ways are seeking to lead the campaign for change in our local community. We want Portsmouth to be known as a region that is committed to supporting children in care.

With very few adjustments and adaptations, local employers can sign up to become a Fostering Friendly Employer.

We hope that this will help bridge the gap and provide more opportunities for people to make a difference to children in care, as there is currently a need for more than 6,500 Foster Carers in the UK.

Fostering Friendly Employers can improve support for staff, making workplaces friendlier for foster carers, benefiting the children in their care and also making it easier for people to consider fostering.

You will share in the celebration of foster care and the vital role it has in transforming children’s lives.

It is possible to combine fostering with other work, if fostering agencies and employers are supportive and flexible.
This report highlights the importance of fostering services thinking differently about how they recruit and retain people to care, and provide a positive role model, for some of our most vulnerable children.
