Fair Ways are delighted to announce the upcoming opening of a new, Children’s Home in Wickham, Hampshire. The property is currently undergoing essential maintenance work to ensure it is fit for purpose prior to a planned opening in May / June 2019 dependent on Ofsted registration.
We aim for a six-bed Residential Home, accepting referrals for children aged between 7-14, with varying Social, Emotional and Behavioural needs. Staff will be expected to supervise and interact with children in the home, and manage complex behaviour, including reflecting on and understanding hidden and expressed needs.
Manager, Kev Morrell states “I am very excited to be opening a provision for the summer of 2019. The aim is to work with up to 6 children in the younger age group of 7 – 14. The shift pattern is intense and not for everyone, but having done it for the last 9 years in previous roles, I love it and it worked perfectly for me. I believe it is definitely better for the young people in our care, having the consistency of staff throughout the week. We are looking for a team of highly motivated people with a real passion and drive. I am happy to discuss the home, shift pattern, or answer any other questions any potential applicants might have, so please call our Head Office on 07394560682.”
The home will adopt a different staffing approach to many of Fair Ways other Residential services – enabling staff to work six (6) days in a fourteen (14) day period. This will result in long working days and a total working week of around 85 hours, however, will enable staff to work for only 23 weeks a year on a full-time basis.
(For example – One (1) week’s annual leave will result in a total period of three (3) weeks off work).
Another live example of this working pattern can be seen below:
- Start: Wednesday 8 am for weekly handover
- Finish: Following Wednesday 8 am
This will include two (2) / three (3) sleep-ins a week and a total of one (1) day off in the working week for recovery (9 am – 8.30 am the following day).
