Building One Community: Fair Ways Managers Away Day 2025

Earlier this autumn, Fair Ways brought together leaders from across the charity for a memorable and energising Managers Away Day at Lakeside North Harbour. The event focused on developing our One-Community Mindset – uniting teams, strengthening relationships, and building a shared understanding of what our people need today and in the future.

A Day for Connection, Growth and Fun

The day was designed to encourage our managers to think beyond their own teams, broaden their networks, and reflect on how collaboration drives success across the entire Fair Ways community. Through a mix of team-building challenges, wellbeing activities, and open discussion, attendees had the chance to stretch themselves, break down silos, and – importantly – have fun together.

Following a warm welcome from Fair Ways MD, Gareth Webb, and an introduction from Wayne Okell, our Director of Talent and Performance, outlining the day’s aims, teams jumped straight into icebreakers and the first of several energetic challenges. These included the Domino Challenge, Rapport Rounds, and a lively “It’s a Knockout” competition featuring activities like Gutterball, Parallel Lines, and Crack the Code. Each exercise was designed to build trust, communication and problem-solving – all underpinned by Fair Ways RiiSE trauma-informed practice principles.

Focusing on Wellbeing

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to personal wellbeing with a Breathwork Masterclass led by Dan Hughes from Vitae-Vi. Dan introduced the science behind breathwork and guided participants through practical exercises to experience its benefits first-hand. The session offered a valuable opportunity for everyone to slow down, recharge, and reflect – reinforcing Fair Ways commitment to supporting staff wellbeing and resilience.

Bringing Our Community Together

As the day drew to a close, there was time to celebrate teamwork and recognise the creativity and enthusiasm shown throughout.

Looking Ahead

The Managers Away Day reinforced what makes Fair Ways unique – our commitment to collaboration, compassion, and continuous growth. By investing in our leaders and nurturing our One Community mindset, we are building a charity that is resilient, adaptable, and ready for whatever comes next.
