Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services


The Level 5 Diploma is aimed at you if you’re responsible for running a facility that provide services for children, adults or both and have not yet achieved a recognised vocational qualification at this level.

This is the ideal qualification if you work as a:

Course Aims

To gain and consolidate knowledge of:

  • Domiciliary care management

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Working in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Understand child and young person’s development
  • Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for child and young person development
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
  • Lead and manage group living for children
  • Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s setting
  • Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people
  • Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people

Assessment Methods

To achieve the Level 5 Diploma you will be assessed on the following –

  • Evidence of your knowledge and understanding as well as well your practical competence in the real working environment.
  • Your performance through observations and witness testimonies.
  • Knowledge through assignments, work products, professional discussion and group work.

Course Criteria

  • 85% attendance (if attending taught classroom sessions)
  • Portfolio (made up of your knowledge and performance evidence)
