New autism-friendly playground installed at Fair Ways School

Fair Ways Education service and Morrisons Foundation teamed up this summer to build a new autism-friendly playground in Fair Ways school in Totton, Southampton.

Our school in Totton specialises in helping pupils with autism (ASC) develop problem-solving skills to promote independence both in school and in the transition to adult life.

The specialist educational provision in Southampton required new specialist playground equipment to enhance the ability to learn through play, for our students. After receiving funding from a silent auction of Fair Ways’ students’ artwork, held at the Chartered Accountants Annual Ball, the Morrisons Foundation also agreed to donate towards the cost of the project.

The new playground has hugely improved the outdoor space available to us. We have seen the students use it constantly and it has really helped promote outdoor learning for some of our students who can sometimes find being in a classroom, a little overwhelming.

Victoria, Head of School

Fair Ways would like to thank everyone for their hard work in making the new playground a reality, with a special thank you to Morrisons Foundation.
