Summer Term School Updates

SEMH School

Residential overnight trip – The school put on their first ever overnight residential trip for both school sites with selected pupils. Pupils and staff had to build their own shelter for the night and engaged in bushcraft activities cooking venison and playing games. For all pupils this was a new experience especially sleeping under the stars and some had never stayed away from home. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all and this is a trip we will continue to do each year.

 

Parents evening and garden party – All parents and carers were invited to celebrate pupils achievements. The evening went very well and this gave parents / carers to meet teachers and discuss work and eat lots of cake!!!!!!

 

Swimming Gala – 2 students entered the Hampshire Inclusive swimming gala held in Aldershot and represented our school amazingly bringing home a bronze medal.

Football Tournament – Fairways school hosted a football tournament with 5 other special schools entering. One of our year 11 pupils attended a sports leader’s course and it was his objective to arrange the whole tournament. He did exceptionally well and the whole event went very well and Fairways school came third.

Theatre trip – selected pupils travelled to London to an open air theatre to experience a play ‘Oliver’. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the trip and it was the first time they had experienced a real live play.

 

ASC School

World Refugee Day – The Red Cross made a visit to the school and delivered a session to selected pupils on Refugees.

St Georges Day – Selected pupils made a visit to Calshot Castle and learnt about the history of St Georges day and engaged in fun activities

National Wildlife week – The school put on a fun week of activities and students made bird boxes, bird feeders, and animal habitats to be put up in the school garden.

Healthy Eating week – Students visited a farm to see where their food comes from. They helped to feed the animals and water the plants in the garden. They also tried fresh herbs from the farm garden.

USA Independence Day – Selected pupils learnt about the history of Independence Day and were taken to the local beach and had a BBQ trying traditional foods form the USA.

School Summer Fete – The school put on a small summer fete inviting parents and other colleagues from Fair Ways. Student all manned a stall at the Summer Fete and raised a total of £196 to be spent on something for the school.

Sports Day – The school adapted sports day for all pupils with a number of different activities such as spacehopper race and sack race. Staff and pupils had lots of fun and prizes were given to everyone who participated.
