Athelstan Place is a specialist Residential Mental Health service in Southampton
Athelstan Place delivers effective rehabilitation and recovery to service users whose needs cannot be met by less intensive services or who require step-down transition from inpatient services.
We can consider service users with a history of challenging behaviours, including harm to self, others or property.
Location and Facilities
Athelstan Place is located in Southampton, providing excellent access to education, employment, leisure and transport facilities.
Our new unit has six residential beds, set in three self-contained pods each with their own kitchen. The service includes two rooms with reduced ligatures and is purpose designed to care for young people and adults with a range of mental health conditions.
Facilities also include a communal lounge, therapy and sensory room, and clinical and meeting rooms, all with disabled access.
The service is led by Registered Manager Michael Crutchley, a mental health nurse with over ten years’ experience of NHS inpatient and community mental health services, and forensic adolescent and adult mental health.
In addition Leanne Gelder, a Nurse Therapist and former NHS Commissioning manager with extensive experience in complex clinical pathways, is a key part of the team.
Other members of the team include an Occupational Therapist, a Learning Disabilities Nurse, and Recovery Support Workers.
Education and Vocation
Fair Ways has an Education Resource Centre that will be available to Athelstan Place service users who are not in education, employment or training. We offer opportunities for GCSE qualifications, ASDAN, Functional Skills, vocational courses and work experience.
