We are excited to announce that a rare opportunity has arisen for a Director of Health to join our Operational Board. The role will include strategic and operational oversight of our mental health services for young people which consists of 3 small, well established CQC residential facilities, delivering care for young people with a range of mental health needs. The department also includes a CQC domiciliary care outreach service, supporting young people and adults in the community with a range of needs. Overall the service consists of approximately 40 service users and a comprehensive range of experienced and dedicated staff. Our health department is a new arm of the business, with a good reputation and a view to growing the services in line with a robust plan over the next 5 years.

Job Responsibilities

As the Director of Health, you will be expected to:

  • Be part of the Operational Board of Directors, developing company strategy and taking on the legal responsibilities consistent with the role of a Company Director
  • Manage a wide-ranging portfolio of services, informed by a sound knowledge of the Health Care sector and regulatory framework within which services operate
  • Establish clear performance targets, both quantitative and qualitative, for operational services which significantly improve operational performance. To monitor delivery of these targets and take necessary steps to address any inadequacies, holding senior leaders to account
  • Ensure that all services under your charge receive at least a GOOD grading in all CQC Inspections and meet regulatory compliance
  • Drive excellence in service delivery and operational performance
  • Raise the profile and reputation of the organisation by forming and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring a high level of professionalism in all interactions
  • Oversee the creative development of a range of services that meets the need of children, young people, adults and families who access services provided by Fair Ways under your charge
  • Formulate, monitor and deliver on annual budgets for a range of services under your charge, setting key performance indicators for Senior Managers and holding them to account
  • Target growth through extending existing services and developing new services consistent with the unmet needs of vulnerable groups in society
  • Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer using a variety of methods on the performance of your department and work collaboratively with other Fair Ways Directors to ensure the development and maintenance of the organisation
  • Ensure that all departments under your charge adhere to the Health and Safety monitoring systems and safeguarding arrangements as agreed with the Operational Board of Directors in the format and timescales required
  • Build a strong business network that supports the development of the company
  • Lead operational change and transformation agendas within and across services. This includes new operational models of delivery and staffing restructures
  • Contribute to developing a solution focussed service culture that supports the overall direction of the company and to embed its values and required behaviours through the leadership of the operational management team


Personal Skills

Should you be successful at this role, you will need to have;

  • The ability to contribute towards the maintenance of a positive culture within all Fair Ways services which is consistent with Fair Ways’ ethos and values
  • Experience of strategic lead across a range of Health and Social Care services with oversight of multiple departments
  • Ability to set, monitor and deliver on budgets consistent with the aims of the organisation whilst prioritising quality of service provision and service development over the creation of profit
  • Ability to proactively engage with staff, managers and members of the public ensuring professional boundaries relationships, maintaining a focus on the aim of improving outcomes for vulnerable groups in society
  • To be highly organised, methodical and able to prioritise, set deadlines and keep to them
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of the political context within which the organisation operates, both locally and nationally
  • To hold a relevant professional qualification and membership of a professional body (e.g. HCPC)
  • Ability to time manage own workload effectively and work as part of a team, promoting a positive culture, including effective communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written
  • Have a flexible approach to the task and resilience under pressure
  • Strategic and creative thinking demonstrated through business planning and reports to the Chief Operating Officer and Operational Board
  • Have proven experience in devising and implementing programs of change and improvement to services
