Allowances For Carers

Allowances For Foster Carers Pay BenefitsFair Ways Foster Care recognise the challenges of the fostering task and the vital role that our foster carers play with offering a child/young person a placement. We believe in treating our foster carers as child care professionals and therefore pay our carers a foster carer allowance as a reward for their skills, commitment and care.

Employment status

Foster Carers are deemed to be self employed to obtain full advantage of all tax allowances provided by the Inland Revenue. ( As a company we support Foster Carers becoming employees and in time this may happen but currently the economics do not work).  It is not possible to cover every Foster Carer’s specific and personal circumstances, so we recommend that you seek advice from the local Inland Revenue office. Fairways Foster Care pay the fostering allowance to foster carers by BACS on designated days each month. Payments of foster carer allowances and fees are made promptly at the agreed times and foster carers are provided with a detailed statement of payments at the end of each tax year.

About carer allowance

Foster carers receive a payment for each young person they look after and as an independent fostering agency, we are mindful to take into account government recommended National Minimum Fostering Allowances. Fairways Foster Care, pays a  competitive weekly rate taking into account individual relative experience and commitment to on-going professional development. The payment foster carers receive is divided into two parts. Firstly the maintenance element, (covering the cost of looking after a child/young person) and secondly, the reward element (in recognition of the foster carer’s skills). Fostering allowances are paid on a fortnightly basis to foster carers when there is a young person in placement. Dependent on individual situations, a retainer payment can be made in certain circumstances. Being Charity owned, Fair Ways ensures the highest levels of allowances are paid and reviews these payments regularly.
